Bargarh: In a heinous crime, a youth from Siapali village under Bijepur police limits in Odisha’s Bargarh district strangulated a 15-year-old girl and dumped her body in a well, infuriated over her family arranging her marriage elsewhere.
While the incident occurred on March 15, the matter came to the light on Saturday after the police recovered her body from the well.
The deceased has been identified as Padmini of Saipalli village under Bijepur police limits.
According to reports, Padmini, the younger daughter of Swali Chhatriya, had gone missing on March 15 and her family members lodged a complaint with Bijepur police on the following day after they failed to trace the whereabouts of the girl.
Acting on the complaint and based on the call records of Padmini, the police detained Chandrasekhar Seth, a youth from the same village, for interrogation. During the probe, the suspect confessed to having strangulated Padmini and dumped her body in the well.
Following this, the Bijepur police with the help of a forensic team recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem.
Sources said that Seth had a crush on Padmini but was unhappy as her family members were arranging her marriage elsewhere. He called Padmini to an isolated place on March 15 and strangled her to death. Then he dumped her body into the well.
