Bhubaneswar: A yellow anaconda died at the Nandankanan Zoological Park here on Thursday afternoon. The zoo authorities are trying to ascertain the cause of death.
The two-year-old reptile was one of the eight that the zoo authorities had gotten from Madras Crocodile Bank Trust in October this year. Three female Nile Crocodiles had also come with them. These two were the latest addition to the zoo’s species strength of 158.
A post mortem will be conducted to discern the cause of death.
The yellow anaconda, also known as the Paraguayan anaconda is a boa species native to southern South America. It is one of the largest snakes in the world but smaller than its close relative, the green anaconda. Like all boas and pythons, it is non-venomous and kills its prey by constriction.
