Rourkela: Chhend police here have busted a gang of online fraudsters who duped people by luring them with attractive cash prizes. The police started investigating the matter on the basis of a complaint registered by one Yashobant Biswal who paid Rs 50,000 to this gang in lieu of Rs 25 lakh cash prize.
Police learned about an interstate gang operating out of Uditnagar following which a raid was carried out and eight persons were arrested. The police recovered 55 mobile phones, SIM cards under fake identities, colour printers, used to make scratch cards, etc. The gang leader was identified as Pritam Kumar of Bihar.
Their modus operandi used to be offering attractive cash awards to gullible customers who needed to encash it by paying 1 or 2% GST of the aforementioned amount.
The accused were identified as Pritam Kumar of Nawada, Raja Sekharan Unnithan of Puttur in Kerala, Arvind Kumar of Nalanda, Babulu Singh of Medinipur, Rahul Pradhan of Medinipur, Manish Kumar of Gaya, Rajesh Paswan of Nawada, Bagaram Parandha Mudu of Andhra Pradesh.
