Bhubaneswar: Proceedings of the Odisha Legislative Assembly were adjourned twice — first till 11.30 am and again till 4.00 pm – on Wednesday after pandemonium prevailed in the House over the hooch tragedy in Ganjam district on Tuesday.
Soon after the Assembly started business on Wednesday, Opposition MLAs rushed to the well of the House demanding an RDC probe into the liquor tragedy that claimed one life and left 15 others ill. Congress MLAs demanded protection of the rights of the marginalised sections of the society.
Unable to bring the House under control, Speaker Surama Padhy adjourned the proceedings till 11.30 am. Later, she adjourned the House till 4.00 pm when pandemonium persisted even after the House assembled at 11.30 am.
Today is the second day of the second phase of the Assembly Budget session. The Assembly was scheduled to discuss issues related to Agriculture and Farmer’s Empowerment, Food Supply and Rural Welfare, Energy, Cooperatives, Fisheries and Livestock, Textile Industry, Handicrafts and Handicrafts, MSME, Science and Technology departments.
