Bhubaneswar: Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) has condemned police repression and dictatorial policies of the Modi government at the Centre.
Addressing a presser here today, OPCC president Sarat Patnaik said that it is against democratic principles.
“The manner in which Delhi police forcibly entered the Indian National Congress headquarters at 24 Akbar Road and did not allow party office bearers and workers from entering it. This was never seen in independent India. The Delhi police imposed section 144 in front of the Congress headquarters and did not allow office bearers from entering the premises and those who protested were charged with batons. Under whose instructions such acts are being done,” asked Patnaik.
Patnaik announced that the OPCC will stage a peaceful demonstration in front of the Raj Bhawan tomorrow to protest against today’s barbarity of the Delhi police.
On June 17 all district Congress committees will stage peaceful demonstrations in front of Central government offices at district headquarters towns to protest against Delhi police barbarity, he added.
He appealed to the people to fully support the protest demonstration programme of Congress.
The OPCC president decried the questioning of former Congress president and MP Rahul Gandhi by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for the third consecutive day when there is not a shred of evidence of money laundering.
He alleged that the totalitarian BJP government of Narendra Modi has been using the CBI, IT and ED to tarnish the image of the opposition, especially the Congress and the Gandhi family in the public eye. He said Congress strongly condemns this.
“It is the country’s misfortune that the party which had opposed India’s freedom struggle, is inspired by the thoughts of Nathuram Godse and were hoisting black flag instead of the national flag for 52 years is now in the seat of government of the country,” said senior Congress leader Narasingha Mishra addressing the presser.
Mishra warned that the incumbent prime minister had dreamt of Congress-free India and to implement the manner in which he is adopting unconstitutional and undemocratic means will spell the untimely demise of his government.
He asserted that Congress is the past, present and future of India.
The presser was attended by several senior leaders and office bearers of the grand old party.
