Operation Dance Bar: Commissionerate Police Raids Illegal Bars In Capital City, Rescues 96 Women
Bhubaneswar: Catching bars red-handed for flouting rules, Commissionerate Police on Friday night raided over 11 premises on Puri-Cuttack road and rescued 96 dancers.
Reportedly, the rescued girls all belong to Uttar Pradesh, Mumbai, Haryana, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab.
Acting on a tip-off, cops of several police stations raided the bars and found loud music blasting late in the night. Young girls, above the age of 18 years, were seen serving drinks and dancing to entertain the customers.
Several of these dance bars did not have licence and were running illegally. Even if the premises did have licence, Odisha Excise Rules clearly mentions “No person who is licensed to sell liquor shall employ, either with or without remuneration, any women in any part of such premises.”
The girls were rescued and their Identity cards have been seized. Owners of the bars and regular customers created ruckus after the raid but cops brought the matter under control soon.
