Khordha: In a major crackdown on illegal drugs, Khordha police on Monday evening arrested three persons, including a woman, and seized 650 grams of brown sugar valued at crores of rupees. The operation, named ‘Sugar Trap’, also led to the recovery of polythene packets, a sealing machine, a digital weighing scale, 175 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup, three mobile phones, and a scooty.
The arrested persons include two men, aged 20 and 23, and a 42-year-old woman, all residents of Khordha district.
According to police, the action was taken following credible information. A team led by Sub-Inspector Dinesh Kusmar Pingua, under the supervision of SDPO Khordha Nihar Ranjan Pradhan and IIC Sanjay Kumar Nayak, carried out the raid successfully.
“The seizure of 650 grams of brown sugar may be the largest in Khordha this year. Earlier, under Operation ‘Prahar’, Khordha led the Central Zone in brown sugar seizures. Operations like ‘Sugar Trap’ will continue to combat drug trafficking in the district,” said Deputy Inspector General of Police, Central Range, Cuttack, Satyajit Naik.
The seized cough syrup, containing codeine phosphate and triprolidine hydrochloride, was found in 100 ml bottles stored in a green bag.
Police said the operation demonstrates Khordha police’s increasing focus on cracking down on narcotics and controlling the circulation of drugs in the region.
