Ganjam: Chief Minister Naveen Patanik slammed the BJP for "false promises" and neglecting Odisha on repeated occasions. Naveen kick-started his poll campaign from Ganjam on a high note exhorting people to vote for the BJD in large number and for re-electing him as the CM in 2019.

"I have been with you, I am with you and always be with you. The 'womb to tomb' schemes of my government have been qualitative and holistic. We have ensured that all beneficiaries of the various schemes are covered. Whereas, the BJP has done injustice by excluding more than 20 lakh farmers from the Central schemes," he said.

Naveen added that the opposition leaders have never shown up in the state during critical times and appear only during elections. "The opposition leaders are opportunistic. Where were they, when Odisha was hit by cyclones and droughts. Now we see their army swarming Odisha to seek votes," he added.

"I thank you all for attending my first campaign of this election in large numbers despite the sizzling heat." As Naveen thanked people for thronging the Chief Minister's maiden campaign, the crowd clamoured.

Citing a series of "unfulfilled promises", Naveen volleyed questions, “What happened to the special category status for Odisha and the Sitalpalli rail wagon factory? What happened to the 10 crore jobs in five years? Why was the scholarship for scheduled caste students stopped?"

"The BJP is answerable," the Chief Minister added.
