Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange and yellow warning for several districts in Odisha, predicting moderate to light thunderstorms with lightning, hail, and strong winds accompanied by light to moderate rain within the next two-three hours.
As per the nowcast warning issued by the IMD at 12:30 pm, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, and Mayurbhanj districts will experience moderate thunderstorms with lightning, hail, and surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph. These districts have been issued orange warnings.
These districts are expected to bear the brunt of the severe weather conditions. Residents in these districts are advised to be prepared for worsening conditions and move to safer places if necessary. Minor damage to loose or unsecured structures, banana trees, and standing crops may occur due to strong winds and hail.
The weather office has issued a yellow alert for Kandhamal district, indicating light to moderate thunderstorms with gusty surface winds and lightning. Residents are advised to keep a watch on the weather and take necessary precautions to protect themselves from lightning strikes.
