Bhubaneswar: Last rites of eight-year-old Subhajit, whose organs were donated following his death, were performed with full state honours at Satya Nagar crematorium in Bhubaneswar on Monday.
He was accorded state honour in the presence of Police Commissioner Sanjib Panda and Deputy Commissioner of Police Pratik Singh and his parents.
Subhajit Sahu reportedly suffered a seizure attack while appearing for an examination at his school on Wednesday. The school authorities rushed him to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar and then shifted to an ICU of another private hospital in Bhubaneswar.
He was under observation for 72 hours and there was a slight improvement in his condition after 24 hours. Unfortunately, there was no improvement in his condition thereafter and his brain stopped functioning.
Subhajit’s parents told the media that they wanted to create awareness about organ donation by donating their son’s heart, kidneys, eyes, pancreas, and liver. “Our boy will not return but his organs can save many lives,” they said.
