Bhubaneswar: Former Managing Director of the Orissa Rural Housing Development Corporation (ORHDC), Vinod Kumar and six others were convicted by a special vigilance court in Bhubaneswar in a corruption case.
The other convicted persons include Swosti Ranjan Mohapatra, former Company Secretary, Pradeep Kumar Rout, former Accounts Officer, Satya Prakash Behera, former Junior Loan Officer, Janendra Swain, former System Analyst, Umesh Chandra Swain, former Recovery Assistant, all from ORHDC; and Lingaraj Patra, Managing Director of M/s City Builders and Developers Pvt Ltd.
The court sentenced each of them to undergo rigorous imprisonment for three years and pay a fine of Rs 50,000. The vigilance charge-sheeted them for showing undue official favour to Patra in the matter of illegal sanction and disbursement of loans based on fake and forged documents, violating guidelines and norms, and causing wrongful loss to ORHDC.
This marks the 11th consecutive conviction involving corruption in ORHDC by Vinod Kumar and other officials, who were found to have hatched a criminal conspiracy with private persons.
Notably, Vinod Kumar has been convicted in multiple corruption cases, with this being his 11th conviction.
