Cuttack: The Orissa High Court Bar Association on Wednesday unanimously decided to constitute an action committee to approach the Chief Justice of the High Court opposing the setting up of two permanent benches of the High Court of Orissa.
As per a resolution passed by the General Body meeting on Wednesday, the proposed action committee will prepare a resentment representation to the Chief Justice not to give his consent for the establishment of the two permanent benches.
The Bar Association took the decision based on the statements of Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju as published in the daily English newspaper ‘The Times of India’ on May 1.
Rijiju in a letter to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has asked the latter to obtain the consent of the Orissa High Court for setting up the HC benches in western and southern Odisha.
The Union Minister asked the CM to hold necessary consultation with Orissa High Court Chief Justice S Muralidhar and work out the details for setting up the benches.
