Bhubaneswar/Cuttack: The Jagatsinghpur Sadar Police registered a case against BJD Tirtol MLA Bijay Shankar Das on the basis of cheating and rape filed by his alleged girlfriend Somalika Dash on Friday. Earlier, the Orissa High Court accepted the petition of his supposed girlfriend Somalika Dash (29) and directed the police to register a case against the legislator.
In her plea before the High Court, Somalika (29) challenged the inaction of the police, especially the IIC of Jagatsinghpur police station, in registering a case on FIR lodged by her on May 13, 2022. She has also alleged the inaction of Jagatsinghpur SP in initiating any action under Section 154 (3) of CrPC on the basis of the FIR.
Hearing Somalika’s petition on January 27, Justice SK Panigrahi ordered the petitioner to approach the IIC, Jagatsinghpur police station with a fresh complaint and a copy of his order. At the same time, the court directed the IIC to register a case provided any cognizable case is made out.
Acting on the High Court’s order, Somalika approached Jagatsinghpur IIC and submitted a written complaint and the latter assured her of registering a case this time.
“They were not registering my case for a long time. So, I sought the intervention of the High Court. Now, the Jagatsinghpur IIC has assured me that my case would be registered. Earlier, I had approached the SP for registering the case but to no avail. Hence, I had to knock on the door of the High Court,” Somalika told the media.
It is worth mentioning here that Somalika had earlier alleged that the BJD MLA was operating sex rackets to raise money for his election expenses. In addition, she alleged that Bijay Shankar Das cheated and harassed her by not turning up for marriage at the Jagatsinghpur marriage registrar’s office.
Somalika also accused Bijay of raping her and claimed that she would provide all evidence to corroborate her allegations.
On the other hand, Bijay refuted the rape allegations saying that they were baseless and a conspiracy to defame him.
