Orissa HC Nods For Biraja Temple’s Rath Yatra, Directs To Obey Strict Covid Guidelines

Cuttack: Orissa High Court today directed the Jajpur Collector to make the necessary arrangements for conducting the Singhadhwaja Rath Yatra of Maa Biraja Temple by strictly obeying the Covid guidelines enforced by the State Government.

This year, the Rath Yatra (car festival) of Maa Biraja Temple has been slated for two days between October 17 and 24 as per the sacred almanac.

Due to the ongoing precautions and restrictions amid the pandemic and as all the religious institutions have been closed till date, Maa Biraja Temple Mukti Mandap Sevayat Parishad had knocked the door of the High Court for justice.

The Sevayat Parishad in its petition had sworn before the court to religiously abide by the Covid guidelines and let it be allowed to conduct the unavoidable Rath Yatra this year too.

As per the age-old tradition, Maa Biraja’s special rath yatra is conducted annually during the Durga Puja.

Briefing media, senior high court advocate Akshaya Kumar Pande said, “Today the honourable High Court has directed the Jajpur Collector to conduct the customary Rath Yatra of Maa Biraja abiding by the Covid guidelines laid down by the State Government.”
