Bhubaneswar: The Orissa High Court has recently ordered the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) to immediately dismantle all illegal bamboo and light gates in the city by 2 pm. today. This directive is part of the precautionary measures to ensure public safety and prevent any untoward incidents during Cyclone Dana.
The court’s directive followed a special hearing on a petition submitted by an advocates’ committee, highlighting concerns over potential threats to public safety posed by illegally erected puja gates as part of puja celebrations.
The court warned that if the structures are not removed within the timeframe, local police and CMC enforcement teams will dismantle them.
The court also instructed the CMC to take swift action to remove hazardous billboards on rooftops.
Moreover, the court ordered the municipal authorities to pay special attention to areas prone to waterlogging and take immediate measures to address the issue after the cyclone.
The Cuttack DCP, District Collector, and CMC Commissioner were present in person during the hearing and they informed the court that if illegal bamboo gates and light gates are not removed, local police and CMC enforcement teams will dismantle them.
