Cuttack: A vacation bench of the Orissa High Court comprising Justice Sangam Kumar Sahu held a joint initial hearing on the separate anticipatory bail pleas of police officers SI Baishalini Panda, ASI Sagarika Rath, Salilamayi Sahu, constable Balaram Hasada in the much talked about Bharatpur police station case of Bhubaneswar.
According to reports, during the hearing, the government sought time to file the case diary in the case. On the other hand, the petitioners sought for grant of interim protection.
The High Court has fixed October 28 for the next hearing on the anticipatory bail petitions. The High Court has directed the government to present the case diary along with the details of the investigation during the next hearing.
However, the High Court today refused to grant interim protection to the petitioners. Court has not issued any order in this regard today.
It is worth mentioning here that the Crime Branch filed a case in alleged custodial torture of two persons at Bharatpur police station who had gone to lodge a complaint.
The government has suspended former IIC Dinakrushna Mishra, SI Baishalini Panda, ASI Sagarika Rath, Salilamayi Sahu, constable Balaram Hasada of Bharatpur police station in this case.
The five police officers filed an anticipatory bail application in the High Court on September 30 to avoid possible arrest in the criminal case. The preliminary hearing of the anticipatory bail application of the four was held today by the vacation bench of the High Court.
The anticipatory bail plea of former IIC of Bharatpur police station Dinakrushna Mishra will be heard next week.
