Bhubaneswar: In the festive spirit of Diwali, the Odisha Rural Development and Marketing Society (ORMAS) has set up a special Diwali stall in front of the SIRD Campus, Unit-8 in Bhubaneswar.
This vibrant initiative brings together an exquisite collection of traditional and eco-friendly handmade products crafted by rural artisans from across the state.
Inaugurating the stall, Dr Monica Priyadarshini, Chief Executive Officer, ORMAS, shared that the initiative is aimed at connecting urban consumers directly with rural producers.
“This Diwali stall reflects the essence of our tradition and the creativity of our rural craftsmen. It is not just a market, but a bridge between rural skills and urban appreciation,” she said.
Priyadarshini also interacted with producer groups from various districts, motivating them to continue producing high-quality, innovative products that embody Odisha’s rich cultural heritage.
The stall will remain open to the public from 10 am to 10:00 PM every day till October 21, offering a delightful shopping experience infused with tradition. Visitors can explore a diverse range of products including earthen lamps, terracotta idols, ragi laddu, coconut oil, handmade brooms, delicious traditional delicacies, handicrafts and handloom items—all made by skilled rural artisans.
Adding to the festive charm, unique gift hampers prepared by producer groups from Ganjam district—such as the chocolate gift hamper and pickle gift hamper—have already become crowd favourites.
The participating producer groups hail from Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khordha, Boudh and Sonepur, showcasing the state’s regional diversity and craftsmanship.
This special Diwali initiative underscores ORMAS’s commitment to empowering rural producers by providing them with sustainable market access and promoting self-reliance. By celebrating the festival of lights through rural entrepreneurship, ORMAS continues to illuminate the path of inclusive growth and vibrant rural economy in Odisha.
