Bolangir: Odisha State Commission for Women (OSCW) Chairperson Namita Behera on Saturday met the family members of deceased lady teacher Mamita Meher.
A four-member team of OSCW led by Behera visited Mamita’s residence in Jharni village under Tureikela block of Bolangir. Behera assured them of taking stringent action against the accused.
After meeting the family Behera said that the Commission is keeping an eye on the case so that the accused gets stringent punishment. A police investigation is also underway.
Mamita’s father asked Behera to help his poor family to sustain by providing a job to his son. He also sought the death penalty for the accused persons.
The OSCW Chairperson and other officials had yesterday met Bolangir SP Kusalkar Nitin Dagdu and discussed the proceedings of the case.
It is worthwhile to mention that she had on Wednesday (October 20) asked SPs of Kalahandi and Bolangir to submit their respective reports in regard to the case within 15 days.
Mamita, the Principal of Sunshine English Medium School in Mahaling of Kalahandi district had been missing since October 8. Family members had alleged the involvement of Govind Sahu, President of Sunshine School management committee, behind her disappearance.
Following it, police had detained Sahu and initiated a probe into the matter. He had managed to escape from police custody but was later apprehended on Tuesday (October 19) and subsequently arrested.
During the investigation, police found that Mamita had been murdered by Govind on October 8 in his car and her body was burned and buried in the stadium on October 9.
As per sources, Govind is the contractor for the construction of the stadium. During interrogation, he revealed that he had murdered Mamita fearing an expose of his illicit and extra-marital affair.
