Bhubaneswar: The State Vigilance on Friday arrested the Chief Engineer of Odisha State Pollution Control Board, Rabi Narayana Prusty in connection with a disproportionate assets case.
Vigilance sleuths had carried out searches at different locations in Bhubaneswar and Ganjam to ascertain the movable and immovable property of Prusty over the last two days.
“As Prusty was found in possession of disproportionate assets, which he could not account for satisfactorily, Vigilance Cell Division registered a case against him under relevant Sections of the PC Act-1988 as amended by Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act-2018,” the Vigilance stated.
In course of investigation, Prusty was arrested on Friday and forwarded to the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar. “Unearthing of more assets, including benami assets, is likely. Investigation of the case is in progress,” the Vigilance added.
The Vigilance has traced three plots in prime localities of Bhubaneswar and nearby areas, the market value of which is likely to be in crores. The vigilance has also found bank, insurance and bond deposits worth Rs 89.46 lakh and gold ornaments weighing 355 grams during the raid at properties of Prusty.
The anti-corruption wing officials also suspect that Prusty has also made investments in the real estate sector outside Odisha, including benami properties, which are under verification.
