Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday approved the master plan for the development of Odisha University of Technology and Research (OUTR), previously College of Engineering and Technology (CET), in Bhubaneswar.
The State Government is to spend Rs 1,500 crore in three phases in three years for the upgradation of the institution to bring it at par with reputed technical institutions such as IIM, IIT, and NIT through the development of infrastructure and human resources. Rs 1,000 crore is to be invested in the first year alone.
While 4,600 students are currently studying at OUTR, it will be developed with a target to accommodate 10,000 students in the next five years.
Today, the Chief Minister reviewed the infrastructure, management, and teaching of OUTR. He suggested that the university be made a leading institution in the field of technical education and research. He also emphasized on the quality of education and research.
With the emphasis on quality education, new courses will be opened for new age technology and more Centers of Excellence will be set up to promote human resource development and inter-departmental research programs.
In addition, teaching and research will be carried out in partnership with national and international universities.
The Incubation Center will also be developed in collaboration with various leading industries to encourage Startup culture among entrepreneurs and develop entrepreneurial spirit among them.
Special attention will be paid on how new patents and intellectual property rights can be obtained with research within the university.
It is pertinent to mention that Secretary to CM (5T) VK Pandian had recently visited the OUTR and had a discussion with the faculty and students over the development of the institution.
The institution came into existence as the College of Engineering and Technology (CET) as a Constituent College of the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) in the year 1981. It had been shifted to a 100-acre permanent campus at Ghatikia in 2001.
It is the only institution in Odisha that has received NAAC ‘A’ Grade accreditation. It was accorded the status of a university in 2021 and christened as Odisha University of Technology and Research (OUTR).
