Bhubaneswar: Tension ran high near Raghunathpur Square under Nandankanan police limits after a 12-year-old girl died in a road accident, on Tuesday.

The deceased identified as Ram Tidia’s daughter of Raghunathpur was crushed to death by Mo Bus when she was on her way home after plucking flowers. And she died on the spot.

Hundreds of residents of the area took to the streets, blocking the Nandankanan-Patia road with bamboo following the mishap. The blockade brought traffic to a standstill, leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded on both sides of the road.

The irate locals demanded swift action against the bus driver and improved road safety measures.

Upon being informed, Nandankanan Police arrived at the scene, launched an investigation, and attempted to calm the agitated crowd. Irate locals vandalized the Mo Bus after the fatal accident. Police meanwhile seized the vehicle.

However, the road blockade was lifted, and traffic on both sides resumed normally after the deceased girl’s family was given a compensation of Rs 2 lakh.
