Bhubaneswar: Police detained three persons in connection with the alleged rape and murder of an 11-year-old minor girl in Nabarangapur district, on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, her body was recovered near a bush close to Kangaon Sadar Government High School under Tentilikhunti block.
The victim, a Class V student, had stepped out of her house saying that she was going to defecate outside. The girl’s family made a frantic search for her when she did not return even after a long time. They even contacted her friends but in vain. They were taken aback when they spotted her half-naked body near a school building with her mouth gagged and hands tied, sources said.
The victim’s family alleged that she was raped and killed.
On a tip-off, Tentulikhunti police reached the spot and registered a case in this connection.
Police, meanwhile, detained three persons for questioning and sent the body for post-mortem.
The incident sparked outrage, with locals blocking roads and demanding immediate arrest and punishment for the accused.
Nabarangpur MLA Gouri Shankar Majhi visited the family and assured them of justice.
