Over 1,000 Teaching Posts Lying Vacant In Odisha Varsities

Bhubaneswar: A total of 1,007 teaching posts and 1,660 non-teaching posts are lying vacant in various universities in the State, informed Higher Education Minister Arun Sahoo in the Odisha Assembly today.

This was revealed by the Higher Education Minister in a written reply to a query by Biju Janata Dal (BJD) member Amar Prasad Satapathy.

According to the information shared by the Minister in the reply, Ravenshaw University has the highest number of vacancies in teaching posts-188, followed by 126 each in Utkal University and Rajendra University, 112 in Kalahandi University, 101 in Rama Devi Women’s University, 80 in Berhampur University, 76 in Maharaja Sri Ram Chandra Bhanj Deo University, 66 in Gangadhar Meher University, 61 in Sambalpur University, 42 in Fakir Mohan University and 29 in Shri Jagannath Sanskrit University.

Similarly, Utkal University has the highest number of vacancies in non-teaching posts-679, followed by 377 in Sambalpur University, 166 in Berhampur University, 162 in Ravenshaw University, 101 in Rama Devi Women’s University, 68 in Shri Jagannath Sanskrit University, 51 in Maharaja Sri Ram Chandra Bhanj Deo University, 43 in Gangadhar Meher University and 13 in Fakir Mohan University, the Minister has informed in his reply.

The Higher Education Minister has further informed that the process for filling up vacancies of teaching posts through the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) is underway.

Also, steps are being taken to fill up vacancies in the non-teaching category, he added.
