Bhubaneswar: Over 18.79 lakh cases are under trial in various courts across the State including in the Orissa High Court, informed Law Minister Jagannath Saraka in the Odisha Assembly today.
Replying to a query by BJD MLA from Khandapada Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, Law Minister Saraka stated that a total of 18,79,226 cases are under trial in various lower courts and high court of the State.
Out of these 1,28,019 cases are over 15 years old, Saraka added.
The Law Minister said that following approval from the High Court, the State government for speedier disposal of the cases is taking steps to start one Civil Judge (Jr Div)-cum-JMFC Court at all blocks in a phased manner.
Besides, steps are also being taken to increase the number of judges for the purpose, he added.
