Bargarh: More than 20 passengers were injured on Thursday morning when a private bus, ‘Banty’, overturned at the Damdama Bridge near Attabira on the Sambalpur–Bargarh National Highway No 53.
The accident took place around 8 am as the bus was traveling from Sambalpur to Bargarh.
Eyewitnesses said the vehicle lost balance while crossing the bridge, causing it to skid and stop abruptly midway over the Damdama Bridge. Several passengers were trapped temporarily, creating panic among commuters.
Local residents rushed to the scene immediately and assisted in evacuating passengers. Attabira police reached the spot shortly after being informed and shifted the injured to nearby hospitals. Some critically injured passengers, however, chose to go directly to private hospitals for treatment.
