Over 2000 Protestors To Join BJD’s “Delhi Dharna” Demanding MSP Hike For Farmers Today

**Bhubaneswar:** More than 2000 BJD party workers and leaders are all set to gherao Parliament today and resort to a day-long dharna there demanding hike in minimum support price (MSP) for the farmers.

Party supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is also set to join the dharna and address the protest rally. The regional party’s protest at the national capital city today will mark a day-long dharna at Talkatora Stadium for which the several MPs, MLAs, Zilla Parishad members and party workers had departed from Odisha to New Delhi in a special train on Jan 4. Later, the party would submit a memorandum to President Ram Nath Kovind demanding hike in MSP to Rs 2,930 for the farmers of Odisha.

Senior BJD leaders informed that the amount of MSP demand is being made after a unanimous resolution by the Odisha Assembly last year. They also stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well as BJP in its manifesto during the 2014 general elections had promised to implement Swaminathan Commission Recommendations, but allegedly failed.

The ruling party reiterated that it would keep on protesting against the Centre’s alleged apathy in a bid to materialise the unanimous resolution on MSP passed by the Odisha Assembly and give justice to the farmers.

Notably, Odisha Assembly on 25.03.2017 (March 25, 2017) has passed a unanimous resolution demanding Rs 2,930 MSP to each farmer of Odisha for paddy per quintal so that social and financial security of the farmers in the State here could get ensured.
