Bhubaneswar: As many as 29, 46,315 construction workers have been registered with the Odisha Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board (OB&OCWWB) by the end of January this year and they have been issued with beneficiary identity card, informed Minister for Labour & Employees’ State Insurance Susanta Singh.
In a written reply to a question by Congress member from Bolangir, Singh has further informed that in addition to the aforementioned numbers as of now 81,302 workers from unorganised sector have been identified and registered by the Odisha Unorganised Workers’ Social Security Board (OUWSSB) in the State.
He has stated that the OB&OCWWB provides a variety of assistance such as educational assistance, Marriage assistance, maternity benefit, assistance for working tools, assistance for bicycles, assistance for safety equipment, death benefit, funeral assistance, accidental benefit, assistance for major ailments, Nirman Shramik Pension Yojana(NSPY), assistance under Nirman Shramik Pucca Ghar Yojana (NSPGY)for the welfare of construction workers.
He has added that a total of Rs 13 lakh has been disbursed to the family members of 12 workers from the unorganised sector on account of death benefit.
The Minister has pointed out that by the end of January this year total sum of Rs 1517.90 crore has been disbursed by OB&OCWWB to 21,07,073 construction workers under various benefits.
The Minister has, however, maintained that since no formal survey to identify skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled workers has been undertaken by the department hence data on them is unavailable.
