Over 2Kg Brown Sugar Seized In Balasore, 2 Including Woman Arrested

Bhubaneswar: In a major haul, 2.100 kg of brown sugar and Rs 1.75 lakh in cash was seized from Vidyadharpur village under Basta police limits during a joint raid by Excise and Police officials today, said an official communiqué.

According to the communiqué, while police had arrested three persons Sk Assadul Kadari, his sister and kingpin Nur Jahan Biwi and one Sk Salim, relatives of the arrestees assaulted members of the raiding party and managed to free Sk Salim.

The raiding party was led by Debashish Patel, Superintendent of Excise, State Flying Squad, Cuttack.

Four Excise department officials have sustained severe injuries in the attack.

The attackers pelted stones and attacked members of the raiding party with iron rods. The official vehicle has been also damaged by the attackers.

An FIR has been lodged at the Basta Police Station in this connection.

While two of the accused persons were booked under the NDPS Act and forwarded to the District Judge Court, Balasore, the third accused has been declared as an absconder.
