Bhubaneswar: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) today seized over 3 kg gold valued at Rs 2.79 crore from four passengers at Biju Patnaik International Airport here. They were arrested under the Customs Act 1962.
The DRI officials seized valuable metals which were being smuggled in liquid forms. The passengers, who came from Dubai, concealed the liquid gold in capsules inside the rectum.
On specific intelligence inputs, DRI sleuths first identified four passengers who arrived at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar from Dubai. The officials detained them on May 6. During interrogation, the passengers were found smuggling liquid gold.
They brought the liquid gold in 12 capsules weighing 3.77 kg. The market value of the seized items would be Rs 2.79 crore.
