Bhubaneswar: As the Mukhyamantri Kalakar Sahayata Yojana Rules, 2018 (MKSY) is being implemented in Odisha, 31330 artists from the 30 districts are reaping the benefits from the scheme by receiving monthly assistance of Rs 1,200 each.
This was informed in the Assembly today by Odia Language, Literature & Culture Minister Jyoti Prakash Panigrahi in reply to a query made by senior Congress MLA Suresh Chandra Routray.
Listing out the number of selected artists by the District Level Selection Committee as submitted by the District Culture Officers (DCOs) till 31.03.2019, the Minister apprised the House that 1395 artists from Angul district are getting the benefit from MKSY scheme, 1500 from Balasore district, 1543 from Bargarh, 690 from Bolangir, 1169 from Bhadrak, 177 Boudh, 2872 from Cuttack, 304 from Deogarh, 1189 from Dhenkanal, 632 from Gajapati, 1885 from Ganjam, 1246 from Jagatsinghpur, 2003 from Jajpur, 572 from Jharsuguda, 395 from Kalahandi, 282 from Kandhamal, 1579 from Kendrapara, 990 from Keonjhar, 2463 from Khurda, 644 from Koraput, 65 from Malkangiri, 1075 from Mayurbhanj, 134 from Nabarangpur, 1055 from Nayagarh, 331 from Nuapada, 1862 from Puri, 34 from Rayagada, 1145 from Sambalpur, 700 from Subarnapur and 1399 from Sundargarh.
So far the ‘Paika Akhada’ artists are concerned, 514 have been selected till date and being provided Rs 1200 monthly assistance.
Earlier, 28 artists of this category were being provided the benefit from the Sports & Youth Affairs Department. But, after the implementation of MKSY, these artists have been accommodated in the Odia Language, Literature & Culture Department, the Minister stated in the Assembly.
