Bhubaneswar: A total of 31,51,700 farmers in Odisha have benefited under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-KISAN) until October 2024, informed Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment, KV Singh Deo, in the Odisha Assembly on Wednesday.
The information was provided in a written reply to a query by Congress MLA from Lakshmipur, Pabitra Saunta.
Singh Deo further stated that 45,57,733 small and marginal farmers, along with 39,303 landless agricultural families, have been supported under the CM KISAN scheme. Additionally, under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), 15,17,000 farmers have registered for the Kharif season, and 1.83 lakh farmers have registered for the Rabi season.
The Minister also shared detailed statistics about the farming community in the state, revealing that there are 48,65,850 farmers, 9,05,184 sharecroppers, 8,87,272 small farmers, and 36,37,658 marginal farmers in Odisha.
In his reply, Singh Deo clarified that the amendment of the Odisha Relief Code for crop damage due to natural disasters does not fall under the jurisdiction of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment. He added that the assessment of assistance amounts for farmers affected by cyclones like Dana and unseasonal rains is handled by the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) office.
