Bhubaneswar: In the past two years, over 5 lakh people have been bitten by stray dogs in Odisha, revealed by Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Minister Gokula Nanda Mallik in the state Legislative Assembly today.
Besides, the Minister also the House that over 17 lakh stray dogs are roaming the streets of Odisha posing a significant threat to human life.
The Minister warned that the situation is alarming and requires immediate attention. To address the issue, the state government has initiated measures to sterilize stray dogs. So far, 4,605 dogs have been sterilized in eight urban areas of the state.
In the current year, over 2.43 lakh people have been bitten by stray dogs, while last year, the number stood at 2.60 lakh. The minister emphasized the need for public awareness and caution when dealing with stray dogs.
