Bhubaneswar: On the third day of filing of nomination for the three-tier panchayat elections scheduled in the State from February 16, more than 52,000 aspirants have filed nomination papers.
State Election Commission (SEC) Secretary R N Sahu has informed that 37,232 candidates filed papers for the post of Ward Members, 8,947 for Sarpanchs, 6,205 for Panchayat Samiti members, and 484 for Zilla Parishad members.
The filing of nominations will continue till January 21 while these will be scrutinized on January 22.
Candidates can withdraw their nomination by January 25 and the final list of candidates will be issued on the same day.
Elections will be held in five phases on February 16, 18, 20, 22, and 24.
