Gajapati: As many as 87 girl students of a residential school in R Udaygiri block here were taken ill after consuming dinner in the hostel late last night.

Reportedly, several students of the Tabarasingh Sebashram School vomited and showed signs of nausea and stomach pain after consuming rice and dal last night in dinner. School authorities first rushed them to hospital in Ramgiri and later shifted them to the district headquarters hospital in Paralakhemundi, when the students’ condition worsened.

On intimation, the district administration officials reached the spot to probe into the matter. While cops have collected food samples from the hostel kitchen, Block Welfare Officer Santosh Rath is leading the investigation into the matter.

According to sources, one of the cooks employed at the school hostel, had been suspended on Wednesday. Many suspect that he might have tampered with the food in spite.

District Collector Anupam Shah also visited the hospital and inspected the health condition of the sick students.
