Sambalpur: There is a proposal to invest more than Rs 1000 crore on Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), informed Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra during his visit to Sambalpur on Thursday.

Mahapatra said, as per the instruction of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, a master plan is to be prepared for VSSUT to make it a Centre of Excellence. At present there are 5000 students on the campus; a plan will be worked out to accommodate 10,000 students and develop the facilities.

The Chief Secretary had been accompanied by Secretary To CM (5T) V K Pandian and Skill Development & Technical Education Secretary Hemant Sharma. They also reviewed the work of the Integrated Infrastructure Complex (IIC) under SSEPD Department at Baijamunda.

Mahapatra informed that the Complex is ready and will soon house more than 500 inmates. It will be fully operational in the next one to two months.

They also visited the Lady Lewis Girls High School which has been transformed under the 5T High School Transformation programme and had a discussion with the students and faculties.

After that, they visited Samaleswari Temple and reviewed the work done so far under the SAMALEI scheme. Mahapatra said that many houses have been shifted and the development work will commence soon. The plan is being delayed due to the delay in the land acquisition process and minor amendments to the original design.
