Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Friday raided and seized over ₹3 crore in the denomination of ₹500 currency notes from an officer while he was trying to throw wads of such notes to the terrace of his neighbour’s house, said officials.
Prashant Rout, now posted as an additional sub-collector of Nabarangpur district was caught red-handed throwing the currency notes to the terrace of his neighbour from his house in Bhubaneswar during the raid.
“Final tally of cash seizures from BBSR and Nabarangpur after machine counting comes to Rs 3 crore. Rout seems to have made regular cash deposits in a number of benami bank accounts. Details of one such account opened in the name of an acquaintance in IndusInd Bank, BBSR has been collected where in Rs 26.27 lakh cash deposits are suspected to have been made by Rout from 2019 onwards,” the Vigilance said.
The bank documents, passbook, ATM card etc have been recovered from the house of Rout in Bhubaneswar. Earlier, the Vigilance recovered huge amounts of cash from Government officials during raids. Here are some of the cases:
- Cash seizure of Rs.3,41,66,280/- during house searches against Kartikeswar Raul, AE, MI, Bhanjanagar, Ganjam on 07.04.2022. In this connection, Bhubaneswar Vig PS Case No.8 dt.07.04.2022 was registered against Roul.
- Cash seizure of over Rs 3 crore during house searches against Prasanta Kumar Rout, Addl. Sub-Collector, Nawarangpur on 23.06.2023 (Searches in progrerss).
- Cash seizure of Rs 1,40,18,070/- during house searches against Ashish Kumar Das, SE, RW Division, Malkangiri on 25.03.2022. In this connection, Koraput Vig PS Case No.9 dt.25.03.2022 was registered against Das.
- Cash seizure of Rs 1,13,16,720/- during house searches against Dr Sukant Jena, Gynaecologist, Charichhaka CHC following trap on 16.02.2022. In this connection, Bhubaneswar Vig. PS case No.5 dt.24.02.2022 was registered against Dr Jena.
- Cash seizure of Rs 1,06,44,500/- during house searches against Gaya Santara, Joint Manager, IDCOL on 20/21.12.2022. In this connection, Vigilance Cell PS Case No.11 dt.21.12.2022 was registered against Santara.
- Cash seizure of Rs 1,01,70,000/- during house searches against Sudhansu Sekhar Mishra, Ex-DFO, Athagarh, Cuttack on 24.02.2016. In this connection, Vigilance Cell PS Case No.8 dt.25.02.2016 was registered against Mishra.
