Bhubaneswar: Action has been taken against 3,16,682 persons for violation of Covid regulations in the State apart from cautioning and let go several first-timers, informed DGP Abhay today.

Addressing a presser, Abhay said that action has been taken against these persons for violation of Covid rules like non-wearing of the mask, not maintaining social distance, other violations etc.

Giving an idea about enforcement activities undertaken by the police vis-a-vis Covid regulations, the DGP informed that police have collected penalty amounting to a total of Rs 9,84,35,823 from the violators since April 1 till date.

As many as 831 persons have been arrested, 2180 shops have either closed or sealed, 26,146 vehicles have been seized and 2503 excise related cases have been registered during the aforementioned period, he added.

Abhay told that people need not visit any police station, SP Office or any other office of the police to register their complaints/grievances as telephone-based grievance redressal mechanism has been put in place at all places and also in some places Whatsapp based services have been introduced.

Over 700 such phone numbers are available in the public domain through listing on social media sites of the police, he added.

The DGP further informed that a committed campaign by the police against black marketing is underway in the State.

“If you have any information on black marketing or jacking-up of prices of oxygen, Covid-related medicines or even items of daily use do inform the nearest police station. Strong action will be taken against black marketeers,” stated Abhay.
