Bhubaneswar: An elderly woman sustained severe injuries when the oxygen cylinder of an ambulance transporting her and her grandchildren to Balangir District Headquarters Hospital exploded, on Friday.
According to sources, Radha Jani, a resident of Bahali village was admitted to the Muribahal Community Health Centre (CHC) for delivery. She gave birth to twin baby girls in the morning. Later, doctors of the CHC referred the mother and newborns to the Balangir District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for better treatment.
The accident took place when the ambulance carrying Radha, her husband her newborn babies and her mother-in-law was on its way to the hospital. The oxygen cylinder in the ambulance exploded, causing serious injuries to Radha’s husband and her mother-in-law Dutia Bhoi.
The injured were rushed to the hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. The condition of Dutia is reported to be critical.
