Bhubaneswar: Padma Shri awardee Kamala Pujari, who has been suffering from kidney-related ailment for a long time, was admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital on Thursday.
According to sources, Pujari was brought to the medicine ward of the state’s premier hospital by a special ambulance. She is currently undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
A team of four doctors from the Medicine Department, Nephrology Department, and Pulmonology Department has been formed to treat Pujari. The team being led by Medicine department professor Jayant Panda is treating Pujari.
Earlier, she was admitted to Cuttack SCB Medical College and Hospital in January and March for her deteriorating health condition and had recovered. Hailing from Koraput, the 73-year-old tribal woman is known for her efforts in promoting organic farming and preserving indigenous paddy seeds.
Recently, she was admitted to the Jeypore District Headquarters Hospital on July 16. As her condition worsened, she was admitted to SCB.
Kamala Pujari has been a pioneer in promoting organic farming and preserving traditional paddy seeds. She has received several awards for her contributions, including the Padma Shri.
