Jeypore: Renowned organic farming pioneer and Padma Shri recipient Kamala Pujari was bid a solemn farewell at her native village Patraput in Jeypore today. Her last rites were performed with full state honors in the presence of District Collector Keerthi Vasan V, SP Abhinav Sonkar, and other senior officials.
Pujari’s son, Tankadhar Pujari, lit the funeral pyre in the presence of a large gathering of locals who came to pay their respects. A procession carrying her mortal remains was taken from Jeypore to the cremation ground at her village.
Kamala Pujari (78) passed away on Saturday at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, where she was admitted for kidney-related ailments. Born in Patraput village, Koraput district, she was a champion of organic farming and developed 100 varieties of rice. She was associated with the MS Swaminathan Research Foundation and received the Padma Shri in 2019 from President Ramnath Kovind.
