Bargarh: The campaigning for by-election for Padmapur assembly constituency has intensified as the polling date approaches closer. Polling day for this crucial by-election is December 5, as set by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Leaders of all three main political parties – BJD, BJP and Congress, are now campaigning from door to door. From star campaigners to heavyweight leaders, the political slugfest prior to polls revolves around the development agenda.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will hit the campaign trail for Padampur bypoll on Friday. The CM is expected to address three public meetings besides canvassing for party candidate Barsha Singh Bariha, the daughter-in-law of Bijay Ranjan Singh Bariha.
The high decibel campaign for the December 5 bypoll will fall silent at 6 pm on Saturday, 48 hours ahead of polling in the seat. The Padampur by-poll was necessitated after the demise of sitting BJD MLA Bijay Ranjan Singh Bariha in October.
Altogether 2,57,474 people – 1,29,497 men, 1,27,965 women, 12 from the transgender community, and 199 service voters can exercise their franchise in this by-election. Voting will be held from 7 am to 4 pm in view of the winter season and the LWE-affected areas. Counting will be held on December 8.
