**Bhubaneswar: ** The Indian Oil Foundation on Wednesday approved the sanctioning of Rs 90 crore for the construction of ‘Paika Bidroha Smruti’(Paika Rebellion Memorial) at Barunei in Khordha district.
The decision was taken by the Indian Oil Federation Trust Board at their 16th meeting held in the national capital New Delhi, under the chairmanship of Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan.
Besides the Memorial, funds will also be allocated for erecting a memorial of legendary Paika rebel Baksi Jagabandhu at Jagaradanga in Brahmagiri of Puri district, an official communic from the Minister’s office stated.
The Paika Memorial will be built in the same lines as that of the Sardar Patel Memorial in Gujarat and Chattrapati Shivaji’s memorial in Maharashtra. The Ministry of Culture has also directed the Odisha Government to provide 25 acres of land for the purpose.
The minister also took stock of the restoration work which was recently undertaken by the IOCL Foundation at the Sun temple in Konark besides other heritage structures in the country.
Notably, the IOCL foundation has also taken up restoration of Kanheri caves in Mumbai, Ashokan pillars of Bihar, Khajuraho temple in Madhya Pradesh, Bengaluru’s Bhogandeshwar Temple, Bihar’s Khajekhalan ghat and the Cellular jail in Port Blair.
