Bhubaneswar: Darshan of the Holy Trinity in Puri Srimandir, the 12-century shrine of Lord Jagannath, Devi Subhadra, and Lord Balabhadra in Odisha, will remain closed for four hours on Monday on account of the sacred Paita Lagi Niti rituals of the deities.
According to the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), devotees will not be allowed inside the temple from 6.00 pm to 10.00 pm on Monday while the rituals are being performed.
Paitalagi Niti is a sacred ritual wherein large amounts of rice, dal, various vegetable curries, and assorted cakes are presented to the sibling deities in the Bhoga Mandap Gruha.
During the ritual, the servitors cover the deities with a special silk cloth known as ‘Basunga Patta’ – which is treated with sandalwood paste. Paita Lagi Niti is performed by Daitapati servitors of Srimandir.
