Jeypore: A daring robbery took place in broad daylight in the Singhpur police station area of Borigumma block in Koraput district. A Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) was robbed at knifepoint.
Six robbers, armed with knives, intercepted the PEO, Arjun Patra, near Ratali road and snatched cash of Rs. 8.59 lakh from him.
The PEO was en route to the Panchayat office to distribute old age pensions when the robbers, who had parked three bikes in the middle of the road, stopped his bike. The robbers attacked the PEO with knives, snatched the cash, and pushed his bike to the ground. They also took his phone and beat him up before fleeing the scene.
“They stopped me in the middle of the road and shoved me. When I fell down, they snatched the money bag from me at knifepoint. I was unable to see the number plate of their bike as they fled the spot at high speed,” PEO Patra said.
Local residents, led by Bodigaon Sarpanch Karuna Badanayak, rushed to the spot, recovered the PEO’s bike and phone, and informed the police and Borigumma BDO. The Singhpur police have launched an investigation into the incident.
