Panchayat Nomination Filing: 2 Brothers Attacked, Hospitalised

**Soro (Balasore):** The last day of nomination filing for the three-tier Panchayat polls marked violence here in which two brothers were allegedly attacked by a group of drunk youths and were hospitalised while another person was also allegedly been countered attacked inside the ward of the Community Health Centre (CHC) here.

Written complaints (FIRs) from both the sides have been lodged with the local police station here.

On Tuesday, the two hospitalised youths, identified as Kanhu Charan Rout and his younger brother Naveen of Kharida village here, were returning home from Balasore when they were allegedly attacked by a group of ruffians near Chhapolia.

“We were returning from Balasore with my younger brother. One rally was going on perhaps for the Panchayat election nomination filing. No idea about which party. About 10 youths in an inebriated condition were standing near the filed and they intercepted us. They started ragging us hurling filthy languages telling why we even though being from NAC had come there. They were carrying iron rod, bhujali, stick and gun also. They forced us to cough up Rs 5,000 to them for election expenses. They have snatched away my gold chain and hit my head and face. My brother has also been injured. Later, he filed FIR at the police station,” said Kanhu Charan Rout.

It is said that the two brothers attacked are local BJD workers while the person attacked inside the CHC ward owes allegiance to the opposition Congress party.

No police reactions could be availed on the incident and also to ascertain if it has been a political violence between the two arch rivals.
