Bhubaneswar: A delegation of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today met the State Election Commission (SEC) and sought security for the party’s candidates and supporters contesting panchayat polls in the face of the violent and murderous attack on BJD supported Sarpanch candidate C H Prasad Rao in Gosani block of Gajapati district by BJP leaders and party cadre on Sunday.
The BJD delegation also demanded immediate arrest of BJP leaders and workers involved in the murderous assault on Rao.
In a written complaint to the SEC, the BJD stated that Rao has been grievously injured in the attack and is battling for his life in the hospital.
The party has alleged that some BJP leaders and supporters had hatched a well-planned criminal conspiracy made a murderous assault on Rao at around 9 PM on Sunday near the village.
Rao has been admitted to the Parlakhemundi main hospital in a critical condition, the party added.
