Berhampur: Election to the office of Panchayat Samiti Chairman in Chhatrapur block of Ganjam district was postponed today as six of the Samiti Members (electors) tested Covid-19 positive.
The election was postponed for 15 days by the Electoral Officer.
According to reports, after filing of nomination papers, the Electoral Officer announced for Covid-19 test of electors (Samiti Members).
After the test, six of the Samiti Members were found Covid positive. These Samiti Members demanded postponement of the election to which the Electoral Officer agreed and announced postponement of election by 15 days.
Following the development, tension prevailed in the area over the issue between two rival groups of BJD. One group demanded immediate holding of election and staged a dharna in front of the Collector’s office.
