Baripada: A special squad of the Mayurbhanj district police has rescued a pangolin from Bangriposi area on Thursday night and arrested one person in this connection.
The accused has been identified as Singu Baske.
According to the police, acting on a tip-off, a special squad of the Mayurbhanj district on Thursday night raided a place under Bangriposi police limits leading to the rescue of a pangolin weighing 8 kg and the arrest of Baske.
Baske was arrested while he was striking a deal to sell the animal to wildlife smugglers.
Police have handed over the rescued animal to the Forest Department.
A case has been registered at Bangriposi police station in this connection while further investigation is underway.
Bangriposi has of late become a hotspot for the smuggling of wildlife.
