Nuapada: In yet another incident of wild animal attack in Nuapada, a leopard reportedly killed a calf in Mahuabhatta village near Amanara section under the Nuapada forest range in Odisha on Wednesday night triggering panic among the local residents.
According to reports, a calf, belonging to one Govind Naik of the village, was sheltered in a farmland near the village. A leopard from the Nuapada forest range attacked the calf and left its carcass behind. The villagers said that they were sure that the calf was killed by a leopard as the wild animal’s pug marks were found around the spot.
On being informed, Forest Department personnel visited the village and started an investigation into the incident.
The villagers have appealed to the Forest officials to trace the leopard at the earliest as it had killed several animals in the village, including cows and goats, a few days ago. They also demanded adequate compensation to the owner of the deceased animal for his loss.
Meanwhile, it is worth mentioning here that earlier this week, two people were killed and four people were seriously injured in the bear attack in the region. The injured are being treated at the Nuapada district hospital and at a private health center in neighbouring Chhattisgarh.
