Bhubaneswar: The Crime Branch of Odisha Police has written to Google authorities, requesting details about the sender of a threatening email identifying himself as Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. The email threatened to disrupt the DGP-IG conference in Bhubaneswar.

The Special Task Force (STF) of the Crime Branch has asked Google to provide the IP address from which the email was sent to local journalist Akshay Sahu.

Earlier, Pannun, who heads the Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), a Khalistani separatist group, had issued a similar threat to paralyze the DGP conference. In a video message, he urged his supporters and sympathizers to “disguise themselves and take cover in temples and hotels in Bhubaneswar to disrupt the DG-IGP conference”.

The police heightened security in the capital city and ensured the smooth success of the high-profile official event, which concluded on Sunday.

The threat email received by Odia journalist Akshay Sahu contained alarming warnings, including disrupting the ongoing DGP-IG conference and stopping all flights from Biju Patnaik International Airport on December 1. The accompanying audio allegedly threatened to paralyze flight operations at Bhubaneswar Airport on December 1 and offered a reward of Rs 25 lakh for flying the Khalistani flag in the city.

The DGP-IG conference was attended by VVIPs, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and NSA Ajit Doval.
